Visit to Resalat
Two days before Zarin School was set to be inaugurated, Maria Rosario Marco and Andrea managed to visit Resalat, the primary school that was inaugurated in April by the Governor of Bamyan province, Habiba Sorabi. They were met by the head master. Resalat lies at over 3000m in a deep basin, surrounded by enormous mountains, close to Shahidan Valley. It is located in a remote area with little light during the winter and it is open one month less (8 months) per year compared to the other schools. Its presence though is crucial, as it serves an area which is reasonably populated and has relieved the children, who until last year were studying under the tents. Resalat is a 8 rooms building and is a co-ed for 350 pupils : 236 boys and 118 girls. As in the case of all the schools that the CAFS funds it is equipped with latrines and a water well for all of the pupils’ hygienic needs.
With the completion of Resalat and Zarin, the schools funded by the CAFS in the Bamyan region are now seven. The total of children attending the schools has reached around 3,000, serving a population of more than 20,000, equivalent to 5% of the whole province. Of the total one third are boys and two thirds girls. The schools hire 85 teachers and 5 guardians: a total of 90 jobs created in the region that secure the living of over 600 people.
