Kahmard girls’ school is growing fast

Late to start, with the ground breaking ceremony taking place at the beginning of August, the construction works of our new girls’ school for 400 pupils at Dash e Shevid, Kahmard district, Bamiyan province, are catching up with growing momentum. A water well of 80m of depth has been dug and water has been reaches at 55m giving good perspectives of drinking and washing availability.

Workers on site are consolidating the ceiling underneath the coming roof which should be built at the end of the month

The foundation of the toilets have been laid and all the material necessary for completion of the building are on site. Once the roof will be added and laid to rest for a while to get settled the window frames will be added. We are confident that the external structure of the building will be ready by late November or at least early December when temperatures will fall and snow will be coming. Contrary to our other schools erected at altitudes between 2000 and 3500m this school lays at 1600m and benefits of a milder climate.

Sand and other building materials and working tools are in place at the site

We  are confident that the school, hosting girls from form 1 to 6, will be ready by the end of March when the new school year will start. This school is an absolute novelty for the region that is pretty backward in terms of social development compared to other districts. Even boys are rather shy in school attendance,  therefore striking a deal with the present Government for a girls’ school in such a destitute area is filling us with pride.
