VOCATIONAL PROGRAMMES

Not all the pupils attending school will move into higher education. Many of them will be compelled to leave school before the final grade 12 to help their families in the fields. To give them better opportunities, we funded vocational courses in masonry, carpentry and, in the case of girls, wood carving. The programme is lead by the British charity Turquoise Mountain, which has an excellent track record in crafts’ apprentiships. The first course we funded involved 10 men in masonry, eight men in carpentry courses and two women in woodcarving courses. We are exploring more projects of this kind.
